 Let's talk.

It's been a while but it's time to talk about content.

And so: I think you should build a business around your own content.

Why would I say such a thing?

Well, you may not have thought of it in these terms, but if you write a blog, or review a book on Amazon, if you pin pins on Pinterest, or post updates on Facebook, then you’re a content creator.

And you can leverage that content to build your own content business.

 

 We’re all in the media business now

 

We’re all content creators now. We’re all publishers, too. In fact, we’re all in the media business. It’s just that we may not know how to leverage the value of the work we do.

Here’s what’s happening

We’re living through the mass democratization of the media. We’ve gone from being mere spectators of the media to active participants in it. Instead of a few corporate groups creating the media we consume, we’re all at it.

 In the past, this kind of thing was unimaginable. Very few people ever got to publish material or build an audience. Very few ever got to see the immense power that access to the media could create.

But the fact has always been that people with access to the media can influence the world. And that’s not going to change. It can certainly be true for you. As long as you control your own media.

 

  The Opportunity in Content

This mass democratization is new and wild and uncharted. It’s so big and yet so subtle that we strain to get hold of it.

But it brings some serious opportunity.

Like the chance to influence the world with your ideas, with your content. Or the chance to own and manage that intellectual property. Or the chance to use it all to build your own business around it.

 There are no barriers, no middle-men, no editors here.

There’s just you, your content, and the people you want to reach.

And in this newly resurrected blog I plan to show you how to build that content business

 

I can help

I'l add my two cents. I want to take something from the years I spent in media and put it out there to help you.

I’m talking lots of radio experience. Quite a bit of TV, too. Scripting, guesting, hosting the things.

I wrote training and marketing materials. I published articles and a textbook. I did blogging, podcasting, and all kinds of content-related work.

Along the way I learned from some media heavy-hitters. I also developed some fundamental principles for success that worked incredibly well for me – allowing me to build a couple of multi-million dollar content businesses with few resources.

As a keen student of media for 25 years I think I figured out some of the seismic stuff – the stuff below the surface that makes media and content work. I think this may prove valuable.

Here's what I'll be doing

 So, my plan is to build a resource here. I’ll be sharing what I learned throughout the years, free of charge.

Like how to create content, for example. Not just nice content or cool content. But the stuff that actually achieves something.

The point is that I’m going to show you how to create content and then create your own business around it.

I mean, why would you spend the next 20 years creating content for the benefits everyone except yourself.

 Many reason why you should do it

There are plenty of reasons why you might want to build your own content business. Making a living is one. But there’s more to it than that. There’s the whole issue of stepping forward, making a dent, becoming a voice, an influencer, a player – call it what you will.

In any event, the opportunity is here and it’s waiting for us to grab it by the throat.

The democratization of content. A real-life revolution happening before our eyes.
